Objectifs

Be able to describe the fundamental laws of fluid mechanics and energy systems, as well as their main simplifying frameworks.

  • Be able to identify the main phenomenologies and flow regimes.
  • Be able to perform dimensional analysis and order-of-magnitude analysis of a boundary problem.
  • Master the basics of continuous flow systems and load balances.
  • Be able to implement experimental and numerical methods in fluid mechanics and energy systems.

Programme

The training program "Fundamentals of Compressible and Viscous Flow Analysis" presents the fundamental concepts and tools for studying and modeling fluid mechanics and energy systems. The basic laws and different approximation frameworks are described. The theoretical teachings (lectures and tutorials) are supplemented by numerous practical activities: introductory lab sessions, lab work, and assignments on experimental and numerical techniques. The concepts and tools covered in this training program are applied in most industrial fields: automotive, aerospace, energy, environment, medicine, and biology. The content covers : • Kinematics and fundamental laws • Newtonian viscous fluid • Reynolds number • Flow regimes and structures as a function of Reynolds number • Turbulent flows • Vorticity and basics of aerodynamics • Energy, thermodynamics, and compressible flows • Heat transfer • Fluid mixtures • Combustion and flames
