Our time is one of globalization. Under the apparent uniformity of "globalization", local differences are emerging, which continue to anchor political, economic and social processes in specific cultural patterns. Thus, "globalization" is characterized in particular by a mechanism of acculturation and "glocalization". By analyzing not "globalization", but the globalizations (as an old and multiple historical phenomena), through several topics and disciplines (geopolitics and economics, nature, culture, body, ...), this module trains students to cross-cultural reflection on past and contemporary issues.
The course presents concepts and methods for analysing globalisation's phenomena. Study of specific topics, which enlight the underlying cultural issues : history of globalization and colonialism; diversity of capitalisms and geopolitics; cultural diversity of body relations; cultural conceptions of "nature" and their environmental impacts, or cultural industries and globalized power relationships. A visit to the museum is organized each year around a theme. The sessions, led by several SHS teachers from ECL, promote interactivity and exchange.
A substantial part of the activities is dedicated to environmentally sustainable development and social responsibility.
