Goals

This course serves as an introduction to philosophical and sociological approaches to science and technology. Classes will cover various theories and empirical methods, based on theorical models of knowledge, historical and sociological studies of science and technology, and conceptual analyses. The lens is not only descriptive, but also normative, interrogating the utility and purpose of science and the dangers of technology, and focusing especially on contemporary issues such as collective science, natural boundaries and artificial intelligence.
