Goals

Although the demand for water is universal, the global distribution of water is very uneven, both in space and in time. Since the very beginnings of society, humankind has developed technical, economic, legal and political solutions for the storage, distribution and sharing of this resource, and the development of human society has, from the very beginning, been inextricably linked with the management of water resources. Recently, climate change has exacerbated pre-existing conflicts over the use and sharing of water reources. The objective of this course is to provide students with the information necessary to understand the pressures on water resources, and the impact this has on the economic, social and political development of society.
