Goals

This course focuses on techniques for projecting insurance balance sheets and associated capital requirements in response to recent accounting (IFRS) and prudential (Solvency 2) requirements. It aims to equip students with the understanding necessary to manage these projections over the life of a typical 3-5 year strategic plan. The course explores the use of financial techniques for valuation and dynamic risk management in insurance, drawing on specialist literature for valuation aspects and the dynamics associated with prospective Solvency. Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of Asset and Liability Management (ALM) specific to the insurance sector, in particular through the 'floor' guarantees on unit-linked policies and the application of quantitative models in the context of ORSA (Own Risk and Solvency Assessment).
