Goals

To present the issues associated with the transformation, conversion and regeneration of urban spaces to meet the challenges of climate change and sustainable development. To achieve this, the course is divided into two modules:

  1. Urban hydrology and hydraulics, the aim of which is to understand the management of water resources in cities and how they are treated to guarantee their quality.

  2. Industrial and brownfield site redevelopment, the objectives of which are :

    • Understanding the context and issues arising when regenerating brownfield sites, including national policy for polluted site and soil management.
    • Applying brownfield management tools to a practical case study (based on a real case) in order to understand the challenges faced, characterise the environmental conditions of the site, and propose a pollution management plan for its redevelopment.

Programme

Urban hydrology and hydraulics:

  • Introduction, water use, effects of urbanisation and climate change
  • Water quality and treatment
  • Runoff and hydrographs

Industrial and brownfield site redevelopment:

  • Regeneration of brownfield sites: complexity, challenges, opportunities
  • National policy for the management of polluted sites and soils: Principle, regulatory framework, methodology tools
  • Requalification of brownfield sites and soil decontamination - Case study: the general objective is to play the role of a consultancy firm in the conversion of an industrial site, integrating management of the site's environmental problems and drawing up a plan for its redevelopment. This will take the form of a project over several weeks.
