Goals

During 1st year, students are introduced to their future profession of engineer by being given their first assignment, called "Projet d'étude". Working in independent teams of 4-6 people, they choose a scientific or technical problem within the School's areas of expertise. They must then define the objectives of their mission, design the organization of their project (planning, tasks to be carried out, sharing of responsibilities, deliverables to be provided) and manage the budget entrusted to them. Students are supervised by a teaching team comprising a scientific tutor and a project advisor. Partner companies and research laboratories can also get involved.

Programme

The project takes place every Wednesday afternoons during the whole year (minimum 100h/student). Students also attend to various courses on report writing, project management and communication methods. During the project, with the support of the teaching team, students design their own functionnal specifications, make and use bibliographic data, formulate hypotheses and propose solutions, experiment or model, and build prototypes. They have to manage the ups and downs of their project and report regularly on their progress to their tutors. They manage their budget and seek additional funding if necessary.
