Goals

The objective of this training course is to provide an initial experience on the topic of single-photon emitters. The goal is to give the students the fundamental knowledge and the most important tools to understand, design, and characterize these devices.

The three main axes are:

  1. Understanding the physical principles of quantum emitters and single-photon generation.
  2. Designing and optimizing a nanometric structure for quantum emission.
  3. Mastering experimental and numerical methods used for the fabrication and characterization of emitters.

Programme

  • Introduction to single photons sources.
  • Elementary concepts: quantum confinement, Purcell effect, molecular beam epitaxy, photoluminescence and antibunching.
  • Fabrication and characterization of semiconducting quantum dots.
