Goals

This Teaching Unit addresses the problem of the in vivo fate of drugs and devices. Using specific examples, the teaching covers the biopharmaceutical phase (release and dissolution) and the pharmacokinetic phase (in vivo kinetic - ADME - of the released Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API)).

Programme

Theoretical teaching is organized around six main themes:

  • Oral administration of a drug or device.
  • Parenteral administration of a drug.
  • Local and mucocutaneous administration of a drug.
  • Bioavailability of APIs.
  • In vivo structural modifications of APIs.
  • Prodrugs and bioprecursors.
  • Bioactive molecules and structure-toxicity relationships. The courses are reinforced by several TD sessions based on case studies on (i) the influence of galenic form during the biopharmaceutical phase and (ii) the in vivo fate of APIs.
